A well-known family operated pretzel company in central Pennsylvania has closed.

Shuey’s Pretzels at 702 E. Lehman St. in Lebanon announced Friday on Facebook it has closed after nearly 100 years in operation.

“Many have heard/seen rumors and unfortunately at this time we are closed. We ask that everyone respects our privacy and for everyone to eliminate the rumors/chatter,” they said.

Shuey’s specialized in pretzels baked in a coal-fired brick oven. Raymond Shuey opened the business in 1927 at Sixth and Maple streets in Lebanon. The business moved to its current location in 1941.

The family said it’s unsure of what’s next for the brand.

“At this time we don’t know what the next chapter will bring. The Shuey family wants to thank all of their loyal customers for their support and business the past 99 years,” they said.
