QUINCY (WGEM) – The first business pitch competition will be held by the Quincy University Entrepreneurship Club at Francis Hall on Monday.
“We just started the entrepreneurship program last year, and this year I wanted to do something unique, so we had this,” said Roger Leenerts, Director of Entrepreneurship Club at QU.
Students from all different majors will compete to win cash prizes adding up to $2500.
20 participants will make their pitch, on either an existing or new idea, and some of which already have some previous experience.
“Some of the students have had businesses for many years. So, they’ve done pitches and they’ve been promoting their business, and this is a way for them just to do it in front of another audience,“ Leenerts said.
Registration closed in October, but friends and family are encouraged to attend.
There are two categories of ideas, new ideas and existing ideas.
New idea pitches will last one minute, while existing idea pitches are up to two minutes, with questions from judges following.
“I think people are going to be blown away with some of the ideas, the commitment, and the attitude that the student have,” Leenerts said.
He also adds that the judges are looking for their ability to demonstrate that they are actually solving a problem, creating an opportunity for someone, demonstrate that there’s a market for whatever their product or service is, have some financial understanding, and that they’re passionate about their product.
