KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City company that distributes Missouri-grown canip for feline friends has earned recognition as one of the region’s top small businesses.

Catnip Budz Gourmet Catnip announced on Friday, Nov. 7, that it was named a 2026 Small Business Superstar by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re honored to be named a Small Business Superstar by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce,” said Adam Larson, CEO of Catnip Budz. “Small businesses and new ventures power a lot of our region’s growth, and we’re glad to be part of that. At Catnip Budz, our focus is simple. We help people build a stronger bond with their cat through play.”

The company specializes in Missouri-grown whole bud catnip and durable, refillable cat toys.

Unlike mass-produced alternatives, Catnip Budz said it focuses on quality products that create “fun, shared moments” between cats and their owners.

The business has grown steadily since it was founded, now selling products online and through local pet retailers.

The Small Business Superstar program, now in its sixth year, honors companies that strengthen the region’s economy. Winners gain access to:

  • Exclusive networking opportunities
  • Marketing resources and assets
  • Enhanced visibility and recognition

“Supporting small business throughout the Kansas City region is a priority and the KC Chamber is excited about recognizing our 2026 Small Business Superstars,” said Vicky Kulikov, the KC Chamber’s Small Business Director.

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce represents more than 2,000 businesses across the region. It helps increase visibility and connectivity for members.

Small businesses like Catnip Budz face ongoing challenges such as economic uncertainty and workforce access, according to Kulikov. However, the award winners show resilience and continued excellence despite these obstacles.

“That’s why they’re Superstars, and why it is such an honor to celebrate their achievements,” Kulikov added.

Larson said the company plans to continue to expand its presence in Kansas City as it maintains focus on quality, locally-grown catnip products.
