BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Every year in Bowling Green kids dress up and go trick-or-treating at local businesses at fountain square park.
“In the last handful of years, it has really kind of exploded, says Jim Sears, an employee of Morris jewelry. ”I think we were guessing last year that we probably had about 5,000 trick-or-treaters, which is a lot of candy. If you stacked all the candy up, it would be taller than me!”
While working at the jewelry store Sears has watched this event become more of a tradition on the square.
“When there’s an event down here, out-of-towners start showing up, remarks Sears. ”And they said, I didn’t know we had a jewelry store down here. We just moved here from Flint, Michigan, and we’re looking for a new jeweler. They come in and they walk around, not expected to do any business. It’s just a way of introducing ourselves.”
While this event may not have given the store additional business, Sears says events like this will impact the Jewelry store in the long run, because they meet community members and future clients.
“Now, most of the businesses down here are not going to see a pop from this at all. It’s just part of being on the square and everybody gets excited about it, states Sears. ”We have several things in a row this right now. You know, we just had Harvest Fest, next week is homecoming. We get people downtown, people who’ve not been all that familiar with downtown, they come down here to the square. It’s just a good way to show the flag.”
