MEDINA, Ohio (WOIO) – Xiaolong (George) Wang, co-owner and general manager of Dragon Buffet in Medina, is disappointed that plans have been finalized to tear down the building that has housed his restaurant for 16 years on North Court Street.
“I’ve been telling customers left and right that we’re not closing. We’re not going anywhere because we have three years of lease left, plus a 5-year option.”
Meijer Corporate plans to have the building razed and to then put a gas station and convenience store where Wang now does business.
Toni Savick, a Dragon Buffet customer, wants the place she and her son have been eating at since he was a child to stay open.
“Medina doesn’t need another gas station. They need this place to eat. There isn’t that many places around here that are this good.”
Andrew Dutton, the Community Development Director for the City of Medina, told 19 News.
“The city’s role in this is that we received an application that was authorized by the owners of the property that met our requirements and we approved it.”
Wang says he has possibly another 8 years and that he has no plans on going anywhere anytime soon.
