CLEAR LAKE, Iowa. (KTTC) – A meeting of the minds for some of North Iowa’s business leaders was underway on Friday.
The North Iowa Corridor and Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce hosted its Corridor Connect event Friday morning in Clear Lake.
“We see a really cool community developing,” President and CEO of North Iowa Corridor Chad Schreck said.
The meeting focused on efforts to increase housing in the area. Demand has been high in North Iowa, and according to Corridor staff, around 300 to 400 housing units are planned between Mason City and Clear Lake over the next two to three years.
It’s a big accomplishment, aided by a special state designation.
“So last year, Mason City received its Thriving Communities designation, which opened the door for some workforce housing projects, and this year Clear Lake received that designation,” President and CEO of Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Stacey Doughan said.
That designation provides the cities with extra credit points for state and federal tax incentives, loans, and grant programs.
“That is a great incentive for our developers,” Schreck said.
The goal for both Schreck and Doughan is to work with developers who want to build a lasting relationship with the area. Not just to create houses, but also to help build a home.
“We’re really excited to see what happens in the next couple of years as well,” Doughan said.
