The roundtable was hosted by Smyth County Commissioner of Revenue, Bradley Powers. House of Delegates candidate Mitchell Cornett and Congressman Morgan Griffith were also in attendance.
“If we turn out the vote like we did for Glenn Youngkin four years ago we can elect, and the democrats know we can elect, Winsome Sears,” Griffith said.
Sears saying how she will help Southwest Virginia’s economy if elected. One of her main points, eliminating the state car tax and gas tax.
“I’m going to get rid of the tax we charge on gas, it’s about time e do that. And, I’m going to get rid of the car tax, it’s time for the car tax to go as well,” Sears said.
She also spoke about bringing nuclear energy to Virginia as well as lowering residents’ power bills.
“Are you gonna get medication or are you gonna pay the light bill? I don’t want that, I don’t want that at all,” Earle-Sears said. “We’re already beginning discussions with these groups, the electric groups and so on to figure it out.”
News 5 asked Earle-Sears for an interview but her team aid she didn’t have enough time. We did talk to Congressman Griffith who says he has faith Earle-Sears will be elected despite her trailing in recent polls.
“The polls don’t always get it right and the two areas where they often miss is the rural areas and the inner cities where people don’t trust pollsters and if hey do answer they often answer falsely,” Griffith said. He also recounted his own race where he was projected to lose in polls.
