BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. (WSBT) — “Don’t forget your pets” — a belief instilled in the small business BC Organics.
A company dedicated to easing pain and anxiety for both people and pets.
It’s a Berrien Springs-based CBD business founded by two best friends from Michigan back in 2018.
When we first started the business, I did have two Rottweilers. They were both diagnosed with cancer. Anybody that’s been in that position before knows how painful that can be. So my mission was to find something that would make their quality of life just a little bit better,” said Joel Mbungu, co-founder of BC Organics.
What started as a hemp farm quickly transitioned into product manufacturing using plant-based formulas.
Their first product was in the form of dog treats and has since expanded to oils, gummies, and CBD rubs.
With Mbungu’s experience in the pet industry and his partner Jeremy’s background in the medical marijuana field, they came together as a means to help others.
One customer says she turned to BC Organics looking for a solution for her dog, who is prone to seizures and head tremors.
The CBD has been just absolutely beautiful. Most of his are not seizures, they’re head tremors. When I found that out, I realized that CBD was also a treatment for that. So we were already treating it, we just didn’t know what it was,” said one customer, Megan Wright.
After the farm bill passed in 2018, federally legalizing the commercial production of CBD, it planted that seed to start their own business.
Our business is about 80% pets. So, I never thought that would be the case. It’s a blessing to be able to have people benefit, in some cases, change their lives, from something we make. It’s extremely rewarding,” said Jeremy Dybdahl, BC Organics co-founder.
BC Organics also donates a portion of its proceeds to its local Humane Society.
Their business operates entirely online with a storefront in Berrien Springs.
