Several businesses in Berkeley were burglarized early Thursday in what police believe was a connected crime spree.

A first round of break-ins happened at about 4 a.m. on the 2500 block of Durant Avenue, according to police. Responding officers discovered that the businesses listed below had been targeted.

  • I.B.’s at 2513 Durant Ave.
  • King Pin Donuts at 2521 Durant Ave. A
  • Gypsy’s Trattoria Italiana at 2519 Durant Ave.

All three businesses had their front windows smashed, police said, adding that there was evidence of forced entry and burglary.

Roughly an hour later, another round of break-ins occurred at businesses on the 2000 block of University Avenue, police said.

Officers found shattered windows and signs of break-in at the following businesses.

  • Café Rio at 2066 University Ave.
  • IMM Thai at 2068 University Ave.
  • Bobby G’s at 2072 University Ave.

Investigators believe the six burglaries may be related due to the evidence at the scenes, police said.

Information regarding what was taken and the estimated value of damages at the businesses wasn’t immediately available.

There was another early-morning burglary at a business on the 1000 block of Carleton Street, but it does not appear to be related to the other incidents, according to police.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact the Berkeley Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit at 510-981-5900.
