Iowa Banks warn business customers about “account takeover scams”

Table of Contents

JOHNSTON, Iowa (KTTC) – The Iowa Banking Industry is issuing a warning to all Iowans about account takeover scams.

Banks in the Hawkeye state continue to see sophisticated fraud impacting business customers.

The Iowa Bankers Association says business customers are receiving communications that appear to be coming directly from the bank.

The attack includes a phone call impersonation, followed by a text message that looks legitimate. The text message comes included with a spoofed log-in page that mirrors the bank’s website.

The fake site is used to capture customers’ online banking login credentials.

The scammer then takes that information to log-in to the actual banking website which gives them full access to the customer’s online banking profile.

Iowa banks encourage customers to always verify with them directly before sharing any financial information.
