NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Charleston County leaders are debating new incentives to secure the expansion of a global manufacturing company in the Lowcountry.
Power manufacturing company Eaton Aerospace is expanding its North Charleston facility. The $46 million expansion is adding an extra facility adjacent to the current building along Cross Country Road.
The new facility is expected to produce complex hydraulic pumps and motors that serve commercial and defense aerospace platforms across the nation. The expansion will add more than 50 jobs to the area.
Charleston County Council will consider property tax incentives in a third reading on Tuesday.
County Economic Development Executive Director Merle Johnson says additional incentives are opportunities to secure the millions of dollars to be invested in the county.
“Every entity, including homeowners, pay property tax here, and this is just an opportunity to get the $46 million in new capital investment that Eaton Aerospace is getting ready to make without giving them some potential property tax relief,” Johnson says.
The South Carolina Department of Commerce is also adding incentives to the pot. The department’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development is awarding the county a $125,000 Set-Aside grant help with site preparation and construction costs. The grant helps local governments with infrastructure improvements, including roads, sewer or water, and site developments to promote business development and expansions.

The expansion is expected to be completed in 2028.
