A Head of the Harbor farm and nursery opened for business on Monday after an early morning fire set one of its storage trailers ablaze.
Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Management said firefighters were dispatched just before 5 a.m. Monday to BB & GG Farms and Nursery on state Route 25A.
Owner Bill Borella told Newsday a storage unit filled with hay and boxes caught fire but did not spread to other parts of the farm.
The fire was located away from the family business’ storefront and did not affect any people.
The St. James Fire Department, along with the Nissequogue, Stony Brook, and Nesconset fire departments, had the blaze under control around 6 a.m., Suffolk County FRES said.
On a windy, yet quiet Monday morning, the farm stand opened as usual, showcasing a wide variety of spring flowers and perennials.
The business, which spans more than 50 acres, also sells an abundance of saplings and bushes outside and indoor plants and herbs in its greenhouse.
