LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Ephrata’s downtown could soon come with a cost, as the borough is planning to roll out paid parking.
The borough said drivers will have the option to pay at a kiosk or on the Park Mobile app, replacing the current two-hour free parking policy.
“It’s complicated for the customers,” Omar Huerta, a business owner, said. “We as business owners feel like we’re going to lose a little bit of business.”
Tina Gross said she believes this will affect locals more than people visiting from out of town.
“I think this is more for the borough than it is for anything else, for any of the people that live here,” Gross said.
CBS 21 reached out to the borough to ask why it’s rolling out the paid-parking program and how it will affect the budget, but we have not yet heard back.
The borough said via social media that it will start with a grace period, issuing warning while drivers get used to the new system.
Still, some residents feel adding paid parking is unnecessary.
“I don’t think anybody’s beating the door down to get to businesses around here,” Dan Smith said.

CBS 21 also reached out to Ephrata police about enforcing the policy, but they said they don’t have enough information from the borough to answer any questions.
