Natrona Heights will soon lose a longtime staple when Community Supermarket closes its doors after 23 years in business. “I’m pretty depressed about it. I’m sad for all of the folks in town,” said David Lowrie of Natrona Heights. Shoppers who were making some of their last rounds in the store on Friday enjoyed 25% off as part of the closing sale. Some shelves had a decent amount of supply left, while others were empty or close to it. “Very upset. I think everyone in the community is. We’ve lost so many restaurants and stores. It’s really becoming very difficult,” said Linda Plivelich, a Brackenridge resident. An employee inside said the plan is to close the store on Oct. 31, unless the product runs out sooner. We did not hear back from a manager for confirmation. “It’s really sad to see it almost kind of all go away. It’s kind of like seeing childhood go away,” said Natrona Heights resident Michale Ankney.Aside from the nearby Walmart, shoppers said Community Supermarket is the only grocery store option in the area. “A lot of these people don’t have cars and stuff, that like live over in the apartments. They don’t have any cars, and they walk here and now there’s nothing,” Lowrie said. The grocer announced the closing sale in a Facebook post earlier this week that said, “After proudly serving the Natrona Heights community for the past 23 years, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Natrona Heights location. This was not an easy choice, and we are truly grateful for the support you’ve shown us over the years. To our loyal customers and incredible team members — past and present — thank you for being part of our Community Supermarket family. Your dedication and kindness have meant the world to us. Beginning Friday, October 10th, we’ll be holding a storewide clearance sale. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for 23 wonderful years. We’re proud to continue serving you at our Penn Hills and Lower Burrell locations.”
