SEOUL — Samyang Foods Inc., known for its globally popular Buldak spicy ramyeon, said Thursday it will step up efforts to expand overseas sales this year, with a particular focus on the United States and Europe.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kim Dong-chan made the remarks at a shareholders meeting, describing the company’s performance in the two key markets as “unsatisfactory.”

In addition to the U.S. and Europe, the company plans to implement region-specific strategies to boost sales in China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

“We will strengthen our production base by upgrading manufacturing processes and facilities while responding flexibly to global demand and investing in strategic products to secure long-term growth,” Kim said.

Regarding potential disruptions in the supply of naphtha-based packaging materials amid the conflict in the Middle East, Kim said there has been no significant impact so far, though shortages could arise if the situation persists.

Since its launch in 2012, cumulative sales of Buldak ramyeon have surpassed 9 billion units, generating more than 5 trillion won (US$3.3 billion) in revenue. The product gained global recognition after its extreme spiciness went viral through online food challenges in 2014.

In 2025, the company’s annual sales exceeded 2 trillion won for the first time since its founding in 1961.

To meet growing global demand, Samyang Foods has diversified export markets and expanded distribution channels in Europe and the U.S.

The company has also increased domestic production capacity, supporting strong earnings. In July last year, it began construction of its first overseas production facility in China, with operations scheduled to begin in January 2027.
