New business in Monroe Co. offers tutoring services with a little extra horse power
LINDSIDE, WV (WVNS) – A brand new business in Monroe County will soon be offering locals a unique way to learn.
Hay University near Lindside is the brainchild of Heather Houchins.
The Concord University alumna brings 16 years of teaching experience, but she is not doing it alone.

She will bring along her two friends, Molly & Buddy, in equine assisted learning and tutoring.
“I could help the students more in a one-on-one environment and add the horses in than I could really do in the classroom. This became a love of mine and it became something I really want to do,” Houchins said.
Hay University promises to offer tutoring with individuality being key for the students.
With the help of both Molly & Buddy, Houchins told 59News students will gain confidence to solve problems and gain certain skills.
Those skills include, but are not limited to, math, writing, and even emotional regulation.
“I think the horses are just going to bring the kids out, help them get off of the computer. Help them be outside in nature and really just build that connection with everything around us,” Houchins said.
Not matter the education needs, the farm promises something different for everyone.

The grand opening for Hay University will take place on Saturday, April 11th, 2026.
“To be able to learn anything, I feel like the first step is the confidence. If we can get that confidence up, then they have that confidence to push themselves a little bit more,” Houchins said.
Sessions for Hay University will then begin on Tuesday, April 14th.
