JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed that several vehicles are on fire at a business on West Beaver Street.
The scene is a used auto parts facility in the Commonwealth area of Northwest Jacksonville.
News4JAX has learned that firefighters are working to prevent the car fires from spreading to a nearby wooded area.
Jacksonville’s risk for wildfires remains high amid the ongoing extreme drought.
Crews with the Florida Forestry Service were also on the scene, putting a security line around the auto parts yard.
As of 2 p.m., a half-acre of land has burned and the fire is 50% contained, according to the Forestry Service.
It’s unclear how the fire started.
The combination of dry ground — over 25 inches in our rainfall deficit in some areas — and gusty winds has increased fire danger.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was not reporting any lane closures in the area, as of 1:15 p.m.
