LEWISBURG, WV (WVNS) – Entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Mountain State have gotten some extra support with the passage of new legislation.

West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner met with local businesses across the state as part of a renewed focus on entrepreneurship.
During the 2026 legislative session, lawmakers approved Senate Bill 878 creating the Office of Entrepreneurship. Secretary Warner said the passage of the bill is a win for West Virginia. He announced tours of local facilities with his team to find out how to support business growth
“It is tremendous when you’re here on the work floor,” Secretary Warner told 59News. “It’s a success story for West Virginia.”
Through Senate Bill 878, new business owners would get help navigating new startups. Secretary Warner said the Office of Entrepreneurship will be a great help to first-time business owners in particular. Members of the House and Senate voted to pass the bill. Lawmakers have sent the bill to the desk of the governor for the signature of Governor Patrick Morrisey to finalize the legislation.
