BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Whether you’re in the market for a sample of syrup or a stack of pancakes, there are spots to satisfy your cravings statewide. Ninety sugar houses and maple-centric businesses will open their doors this weekend as part of Maple Open House Weekend.
Many offer live music, cocktails, and sugarhouse tours in addition to sweets.
This year, the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association has new itineraries to help you customize your maple tour. “Maple Open House weekend is really sugarmakers’ time to shine. Sugarmakers are innovators and storytellers, and hopefully, especially in a year like this, optimists,” said Allison Hope with the Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association.
Hope says after sporadic early spring temperatures, sugarmakers have their sights set on a more level forecast.
“It’s that freeze-thaw cycle that we’re looking for, where it needs to be cold enough at night, and it needs to be warm enough during the day. And then those few extras, like low wind and bright sunshine, just make it all the better. That’s the sweet spot, as it were,” she said.
The WCAX weather team says that prime syrup-making weather is on the menu this weekend, with below-freezing nights and above-freezing days on tap.
