MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — Tuesday’s storms are still causing issues in our area.
Flooding across Marshall County is causing issues for people trying to get to their destinations as well as business owners.
Beech Road and US 6 have been closed due to the flooding, but drivers have been moving the barriers to get through causing one vehicle to get stuck in a ditch.
Flooding in the area is a common issue, but it greatly affects Borkholder Buildings and Supply whenever it happens.

Borkholder told WSBT they’ve reached out to the Indiana Department of Transportation to try and fix the issue however nothing has been fixed.
“This is a reoccurring process every two to three times a year where there’s a good Substantial amount of rain and that it backs up can’t get under six fast enough and then subsequently it backs up Onto our property and the waters a from the original rainfall But then all the tiling from all the water drainage from the fields in the area Comes down to this point and has to go under six,” said President of Borkholder Buildings and Supply Dwayne Borkholder.
Not only does it affect traffic flow to the business, it also damages property.

“Anytime that we get water setting to this degree out in our trust yard and that’s typically that’s where it’s located right now when it backs up under six and or the railroad it really compromises the entire rock surface and the graveled area and so it becomes a huge mud mess,” said Borkholder.

Drivers are also concerned about the semitrucks using county roads as flooding detours, potentially putting Amish buggies at risk.
