Here’s why 38 Buc-ee’s stores, including one in Kentucky, got an ‘F’ rating from the Better Business Bureau
Numerous Buc-ee’s locations get ‘F’ ratings
Numerous Buc-ee’s locations received ‘F’ ratings for unresolved customer complaints including car wash issues and billing errors.
- Dozens of Buc-ee’s locations in several states have received an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.
- The low rating is due to the company’s failure to respond to 88 customer complaints about car washes, merchandise, and erroneous charges.
- Despite the ratings, Buc-ee’s is expanding, with its first Ohio location opening in April near Dayton and another planned for the Mansfield area.
A certain traveling beaver isn’t passing with his current report card.
As Buc-ee’s gets ready to open its first location in Ohio, several others on the Better Business Bureau website have received an “F” rating from the nonprofit organization because it says the Texas-based travel center has failed to respond to 88 customer complaints. As of March 11, 38 Buc-ee’s locations in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas received the low-grade rating.
Similar to review sites like Yelp, anyone can submit a complaint about a business on the Better Business Bureau website. Of the 88 outstanding Buc-ee’s complaints, the oldest unanswered submission dates back to March 2023, with the most recent filed in February 2026, as of March 11.
Complaints about the beaver-branded travel center include issues with the car wash, broken or ineffective merchandise and erroneous card charges. Several customers also said they filed a complaint on the Buc-ee’s website but had not heard anything back from the company.
Buc-ee’s did not immediately respond for comment about the “F” rating when contacted by USA TODAY on March 11.
Buc-ee’s opening Ohio location, considering a second
Buc-ee’s is scheduled to open its first Ohio location in Huber Heights, about 65 miles northeast of Cincinnati, in early April.
The company will officially open its doors on Monday, April 6, Huber Heights Mayor Jeff Gore revealed in a Jan. 20 Facebook post, the Cincinnati Enquirer previously reported. The store is located at the intersection of State Route 235 and Interstate 70. The store will open its doors at 6 a.m., with a ribbon cutting scheduled for noon, according to company officials.
Meanwhile, a second Buc-ee’s location in Ohio is being proposed near Mansfield, the Canton Repository, part of the USA TODAY networks, reports. The travel center would be at the Interstate 71 and Ohio 39 interchange, Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry said on social media.
Kentucky Buc-ee’s location among stores to receive an ‘F’ rating from Better Business Bureau
Among the locations to be given an “F” by the BBB is one at 1013 Buc-ee’s Blvd. in Richmond, Kentucky. That’s more than 100 miles south of Cincinnati off Interstate 75, a major route for Ohioans heading south.
Buc-ee’s has two locations in Kentucky; the other is in Smiths Grove along Interstate 65 near Bowling Green in Western Kentucky. A third is proposed in Oak Grove, Kentucky, WLKY reports. That’s in Southern Kentucky along Interstate 24, just across the border from Clarksville, Tennessee.
How does a business receive an ‘F’ rating from the BBB?
The Better Business Bureau assigns ratings on a scale of A+ to F. Ratings are based on information the nonprofit can obtain about the business, including public complaints, according to the Better Business Bureau’s website.
“BBB ratings are not a guarantee of a business’s reliability or performance. BBB recommends that consumers consider a business’s BBB rating in addition to all other available information about the business,” the group’s website says.
What is the Better Business Bureau, or BBB?
Founded in 1912, the Better Business Bureau, or BBB, is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide transparency about businesses to the general public. The BBB offers a paid accreditation program for businesses, allows consumers to leave public reviews and submit official complaints, and operates its letter-grade rating system to help consumers get a better idea of a business’s practices.
