AIKEN — The Aiken Standard Healthy Home and Lifestyle Expo kicked off on March 6, featuring vendors including Ms. Bea’s Pickles, Tupperware and Leaf Filter.
The two-day event aims to connect the community with local services and businesses focused around home improvement and healthy living.
“It’s just a way for the people of Aiken to get to know some of the businesses in the fields of those two categories,” said Maidi Thompson, the newspaper’s Advertising Operations Manager. “We’ve very community oriented, we want to do community events like this where it brings local businesses and the community together.”
“We have a lot of really good businesses here today…you can come and get information about remodeling your bathroom, or, if you would like to buy some of Ms. Bea’s famous pickles, they’re here.”
On Saturday, March 7, Thompson said that Hearing Associates of South Carolina will be offering hearing tests between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Gabriella Thomas, a current student at USC Aiken, was manning the Hearing Associates booth on Friday afternoon.
“We have locations in North Augusta and Aiken and I’m letting everyone know that we’re offering services like earwax removal, tinnitus treatment, we’re doing custom hearing aid fittings and repairs, everything that you can think of,” she said. “And we’re handing out goodies and just letting the people know what we offer.”
Thomas, a business management major, said that her experience participating in the expo has been invaluable.
“Getting this interaction with people and getting to see different businesses represented here and to just see how the outreach works through promotion and advertising, it definitely helps me get a better grasp on all aspects of business,” she said.
