Albany’s downtown nightlife was on display during a special “First Friday” celebration tied to Women’s History Month.
First Friday is a tradition in Albany where dozens of small businesses and nonprofits come together for a night of art and culture. This month’s event brought dozens of people to The Hollow Bar and Kitchen for a live music showcase aimed at supporting local women-owned businesses.
Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs, described as Albany’s first Black, female mayor, attended the event. “We have a business partially run by a woman, a woman and her husband and they have been rooted in this community, they have run this business for some time in Downtown Albany Proper. It was important to have this event to celebrate women’s history right here in the supporting Dora and her team,” Applyrs said.
