A Massachusetts business owner is facing charges for allegedly falsifying tax records and failing to pay more than $1.2 million in income tax.Jean Brito, 47, of Woburn, was indicted on five counts of tax evasion and five counts of making or subscribing false tax returns for his business, Boston Quality Clean Services.He was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court and was released on condition that he surrender his passport, not apply for any new ones, only travel in New England states and to request any travel outside New England through the court.Boston Quality Clean Services in Medford provides janitorial services to businesses. Between 2018 and 2023, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office alleges Brito underreported his business income by over $20 million and evaded more than $1.2 million in personal income tax.Investigators said Brito cashed business checks at check cashers rather than depositing them into the business’s bank account.Brito also allegedly provided tax returns with incomplete financial records, causing inaccurate returns and records from the Department of Revenue.On Feb. 4, Massachusetts State Police detectives and FBI agents executed a search warrant at Brito’s home and Medford business.Officers seized approximately $35,000 in cash along with various documents and electronic devices, according to the district attorney’s office.The investigation remains ongoing.
