This San Angelo store holds 50 businesses under one roof with an event venue, community events, space for small businesses and more.

Hippie Hysteria is located at 109 S Chadbourne St. and owned by Sabrina Acosta, who also owns the local bakery Sugar High Bake Shop.

The new shop is an avenue for local small businesses to showcase their items whether it be art, clothing, vintage, antiques or even authentic Labubus.

The Houston native moved to San Angelo over 12 years ago and opened the bakery nearly three years ago.

“When I opened the bakery, it was a struggle trying to get going and not having a lot of start up cash or access to loans,” Acosta said. “I was renting the entire building at Sugar High, and I had that empty side next door. I was brainstorming on something I could do that could also help other people get into small business that wouldn’t be me having to stock an entire store.”

The original Hippie Hysteria opened on Main Street next to the bakery in November 2024 with eight small businesses inside.

The new location downtown opened on Aug. 15 and now is at capacity holding 50 small businesses and artists.

“There is room for more artists to come in, but small business wise, we are booked until January,” Acosta said.

Acosta said the business owners will lease their space from Hippie Hysteria and are charged a base rent plus commision on sales.

“They don’t have to do anything else,” she said. “We have an inventory system that we use where they have their own logins. They can hop in, check and price their own inventory, bring it in the store, and we run all the sales and do everything for them.”

Since opening, Acosta said the response from the community has been positive.

“We have had an incredible turnout and influx of support from the community,” she said. “When I opened the original Hippie Hysteria, I put out the feelers to see if people would be interested and I got an overwhelming response from people. I said I would grow and do it on a larger scale eventually if things went well, so here we are.”

Acosta said they are also opening a room inside the store called The Vibe that can be rented out by the public.

The venue will provide tables and chairs, and the store will be open for sales during any event.

Hippie Hysteria will also host a monthly community event called 3rd Sunday. The first one will be held Oct. 19 and is called Haunted Hysteria. The Halloween shopping event will have pop-up vendors, kids crafts, face painting, a costume contest and the first opening of The Vibe.

“We need more things to do in San Angelo,” Acosta said. “We want to bring in a lot of hands-on fun stuff into the store.”

The store is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more details on events or store items, follow along on the Hippie Hysteria Facebook page.
