HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Local business owners say they deserved better communication about sudden debit card freeze.
An “internal error” at Redstone Federal Credit Union left local business owners scrambling yesterday when their debit cards were unexpectedly declined and the credit union didn’t tell them why.
Maralyn and Evan Fryberger own 1111 Jewelry Store in Huntsville
They have a business bank account with Redstone Federal Credit union, and they have for 3 years with no issues.
Until Wednesday when Maralyn tried to use her business debit card at a store.
“There was an error message. And I looked and it – she said it was kind of like meaning my card has been stopped,” Maralyn said.
Maralyn immediately checked her account.
“Made sure I had enough money. I said I got plenty of money and I showed her,” Maralyn said.
Then she went straight to the credit union.
When she brought this issue to Redstone Federal Credit union they told her this was happening to many business accounts not just hers.
I reached out to Redstone Federal credit union, and they gave me this statement on the matter.
The Fryberger’s don’t plan on leaving Redstone federal credit union.
They said they’ve always enjoyed banking here.
But they said a little more transparency would’ve been nice.
“Everyone’s business debit card was canceled. Even if they didn’t know what was happening but at least alert us that oh by the way your credit card has been frozen or whatever,” Maralyn said.
“Get some assurance that this will never happen again you know some sort of communication would be great,” Evan said.
Redstone Federal credit union would not give us an exact number of how many businesses were impacted by this internal error.
The Fryberger’s did get their new debit card activated earlier this afternoon.
If you had issues similar to the Fryberger’s you can contact Redstone Federal Credit Union.
