Warner Robin’s city council approves rezoning for 16 acres, paving the way for 43 homes, local businesses, and road improvements to support neighborhood growth.
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Warner Robins city leaders approved the annexation and rezoning of 16.3 acres along Lake Joy Road near Duskmore Drive during Monday night’s city council meeting. The vote sets the stage for new homes, local businesses, and road improvements in the area.
Tony Harris, who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 23 years, said he is supportive of the city’s plan.
“Proud of the mayor’s vision. Not surprised. I’ve been through annexation before,” Harris said.
The project will include 43 single-family homes on the majority of the land, while nearly two acres along Lake Joy Road will be designated for small local businesses and services.
“I kind of just grown used to it,” Harris said, reflecting on the area’s gradual development.
Harris also said the changes could make life easier for residents.
“You don’t have to drive across town to go to things, so that saves on gas and it also brings in taxes for those that are traveling through. It’s good for business, good for our community,” he said.
City Administrator James Drinkard said the plan also includes improvements to roads and infrastructure to handle added traffic.
“Duskmore Drive itself will see several improvements. You will have curb and gutter where none exists today, so that’s going to help with some stormwater improvements. You will have sidewalks,” Drinkard said.
He added that commercial traffic will be kept off residential streets and the zoning change from county R1 to city R2 allows slightly smaller lots while maintaining the area’s character.
“Also putting in a deceleration lane along Lake Joy Road, and stormwater improvements on the site itself,” Drinkard said.
City leaders noted there is no construction timeline yet, and any development will still require additional approvals before work begins.
