A major water line break in downtown Weirton has left Blue Cat Coffee struggling with a lack of water pressure and discolored water.

Owner Amber Cekus said, “We had no water pressure or water at all at some points.”

The break led to a citywide boil order, forcing the coffee shop to close temporarily. Cekus reopened by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday but reported significant financial losses.

“As a result of everything, I had little-to-no business,” she said, estimating a loss of around $200 a day. Despite repairs on Walnut Street, the city has experienced over 100 line breaks this year.

Cekus expressed concern about the impact on her business, saying, “My main fear is that people will stop coming in because they know the water in this area isn’t good.” Other businesses in Weirton, including those at the plaza on Three Springs Drive and on Pennsylvania Avenue, reported no impact from the breaks.

Mayor Dean Harris has not yet responded to inquiries about the situation. News9 will continue to monitor developments.
