Several businesses in downtown Thomaston were destroyed on Wednesday morning after a major structure fire, police said.
Firefighters are still battling the flames, which destroyed the popular restaurant Patti’s Place, a nail salon, and other nearby businesses. The two-alarm fire started Tuesday night, firefighters said.
Police asked people to avoid the downtown area.
The following areas are closed, according to the Thomaston Police Department:
- Park Street
- Main Street between Clay Street and North Main Street
- East Main Street between Father McGiveney Way and Main Street
- High Street between Sanford Avenue and Main Street
“Thru traffic alternate route is Route 8 exits 38/39 North and South, and local traffic alternate route is Elm Street,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
No one was injured in the fire, police said.
The Waterbury Fire Department said they were dispatched to help Thomaston around 10 p.m. Tuesday and fought the fire for about five hours, according to a Facebook post.
“This fire is a devastating loss to the town of Thomaston,” the department wrote in the post. “Our thoughts are with all of the business owners and employees impacted.”
Authorities have not released any further details.
