A fire caused extensive damage Tuesday to a warehouse that houses a water sports business in Larkspur.
The fire was reported at about 3:30 a.m. at Live 2 Kite at 44 Industrial Way, part of the commercial area east of Highway 101. The flames were burning through the roof when firefighters arrived, said Battalion Chief Ezra Colman of the Central Marin Fire Department.
Crews had the fire under control within an hour, Colman said. It caused no injuries and did not damage nearby buildings. San Rafael and Kentfield firefighters helped Central Marin firefighters.
The cause is under investigation.
The owner of Live 2 Kite was unavailable for comment. The business sells equipment for kiteboarding, paddleboarding and other aquatic sports.
The area where the fire happened is near the Greenbrae highway interchange and the Corte Madera Marsh Ecological Reserve. The area was swamped with tidal flooding during the spate of storms and king tides in recent days.
“This neighborhood has taken a beating,” Colman said.
Matt Lennon of Rich Readimix Concrete Inc., a nearby business on Rich Street, watched fire crews while waiting for the power to return Tuesday morning. Lennon said an electrician had worked hours to restore power at the business after the flooding, and then it went out again during the fire.
“This is really a disaster. Any one of us could’ve had a fire,” Lennon said. “We had electrical problems because of the floods — stuff burned up, wiring burned up, switches burned up.”
“Thank God it’s not raining,” he said.
