BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The annual Small Business Saturday vendor market made its return to Bryan.
Following Black Friday is the celebration of small businesses throughout the country. In Bryan, the celebration consists of the Small Business Saturday Vendor Market, which is hosted at Kinderhill Brew Lab.
It started four years ago, and co-owner Laura Hill explained how the community can support locally after Thanksgiving.
“Small business Saturday is the counterpart to the crazy Black Friday shopping, and it is a day to just remember to go out and support our local community and all of the small business owners that are located here,” Hill commented.
This year’s market had four vendors attending, but usually there are around 15 vendors. Hill said some vendors ended up canceling at the last minute due to weather concerns.
“Normally, we have a few more than we have this year. Because of the chance of rain, some people had to cancel because their products are more sensitive to rain,” Hill remarked.
For some, this event can provide an opportunity for businesses to begin selling their products ahead of the holiday season. Michelle Southern is the owner of The Coconut Lanai, and her business has been coming to the market since it began.
“Events like this are extremely helpful for those of us that don’t have a brick-and-mortar store,” Southern said. “We don’t have the overhang of rent somewhere, but it makes it hard cause people have to contact us, look at social media, or our website to figure out where we are.”
Hill expressed enjoyment in partnering with other businesses, and she hopes the event will continue for future years.
“We just love being a part of this community, and we like to participate with all of our local creators and makers and small business owners,” Hill said.
The vendor market is a free, family-friendly experience where there is something for everyone.
