PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Southern Craft, a family-owned restaurant on Emerson Avenue, has served the Parkersburg community for 15 years since opening in 2010.
Kristen DeAngelo and her husband Louis opened the restaurant as a family labor of love. Kristen DeAngelo said working with family makes the job enjoyable.
“It is the best thing. I know some people are like oh I gotta get up and go to work, but my thing is, if I’m tired, I know that all five of my children and my husband and grandson will be there. And it’s a great thing to know that I’ll be with them all day long,” Kristen DeAngelo said.
Louis DeAngelo worked in the restaurant business for many years before moving to Parkersburg. The couple wanted to bring something new to the area and create familiar dishes from home when they opened Southern Craft.
The restaurant serves home-cooked inspired dishes including bang-bang chicken, shrimp and grits, and Cajun red snapper. Unlike large food chains, Southern Craft’s menu changes with daily and holiday specials.
Running a small business allows the staff to make connections with customers. After 15 years in business, Southern Craft has welcomed many repeat customers who return for both the food and friendship.
“We get to know them for who they are and it’s not just an exchange where, “Oh hi, how can I help you” and then you move on with your life. We like to get to know our customers and be involved,” said Isabella DeAngelo, a server at Southern Craft.
The DeAngelos take pride in offering quality Southern-inspired dishes while maintaining a relaxed and inviting atmosphere for friends and family. While the restaurant is closed for Thanksgiving, the team encourages customers to visit after Black Friday shopping or for dinner on Small Business Saturday. Their regular business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 3pm until 9pm.
