Temu expands European delivery network

Temu expands European delivery network

Table of Contents

Temu has recently entered into a large number of partnerships with logistics service providers for the delivery of products across Europe. This week, deals with the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail and Belgium’s bpost were announced.

PDD Holdings, the owner of the Chinese online platform Pinduoduo, introduced Temu in Europe in the spring of 2023. The bargains platform has quickly become a significant player in European ecommerce. In the first half of this year, Temu attracted an average of 116 million Europeans to its marketplace each month, including over 19 million Germans and 16 million French consumers.

Like Shein, Temu is a constant subject of debate in Europe, partly due to safety issues with many products from China and the way the company persuades – or misleads – shoppers. Meanwhile, the European Union is actively working on abolishing an exemption on import duties and introducing a parcel tax.

Local warehouses

To respond to these developments, the platform aims to ship more online orders from within Europe. Its stated goal is for 80 percent of all European orders to be shipped from local warehouses, which would allow shoppers to receive their orders more quickly.

Its Local Seller Program is a top priority for Temu

In addition, since last summer Temu has been allowing European merchants to sell on its platform. Expanding the Local Seller Program is a top priority for Temu, which is seeing its European growth slow down.

Logistics collaboration

As Temu looks to strengthen logistics collaboration and service quality for consumers and sellers across Europe, the marketplace has recently concluded or expanded several partnerships with leading delivery companies in many European countries. Last week, Temu signed Memorandums of Understanding with Austrian Post and Poste Italiane, aiming to simplify order processing, shorten delivery times, and reduce transportation costs for local sellers.

Cooperation in the United Kingdom

This week, a new cooperation agreement with the UK’s Royal Mail was announced. Sellers using Temu Local in the United Kingdom will now have seamless access to Click & Drop, Royal Mail’s free-to-use shipping platform. The integration allows sellers to easily import their Temu orders into the platform, simplifying the shipping process and improving operational efficiency.

Agreement in Belgium

Yesterday, Temu signed a Memorandum of Understanding with bpostgroup, the parent company of Belgian market leader bpost. The agreement strengthens their ongoing partnership in Belgium and Canada. According to the press release, the companies will “explore diversified delivery models, including services for heavier parcels, and enhance access through pick-up and drop-off networks”.

Logistic solutions supporting pan-European delivery

The two parties will also develop integrated logistics solutions to support local-to-local and pan-European delivery, with a shared focus on quality and affordable services while enhancing scalability. Temu previously entered into partnerships with, among others, DHL in Germany, La Poste in France and Correos in Spain.
