While the Friday after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday, local businesses across Doña Ana County depend on a needed bump from Small Business Saturday.

Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce members such as Nothing Bundt Cakes, all three Game locations, Emerald Isle Boutique, Ashley Furniture and Ikards Furniture will be open on Small Business Saturday, which takes place on Nov. 29.

Downtown Las Cruces businesses such as Coas Books, Grounded, Dwell Yoga, Petal and Pink Co., and many more businesses downtown will be open on Small Business Saturday.

What is Small Business Saturday?

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 79% of small businesses said this upcoming holiday season is important for their overall profit this year, up from 70% last year due to uncertainty related to the recent government shutdown and tariffs.

There are 33.2 million small businesses in the U.S. and they make up 99% of all businesses.

Small Business Saturday was launched by American Express in 2010 with the Senate passing a resolution in 2011 to support Small Business Saturday and by 2012, small businesses in all 50 states were participating.

“Small Business Saturday is more than just a day on the calendar; it’s a call to action for every community,” said Justin Crossie, Small Business Administration South Central Regional Administrator. “By supporting our local businesses, we invest in the vitality of our neighborhoods while driving economic growth. Let’s come together this holiday season to celebrate and uplift the American entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our economy.”
