Mollie has announced that it is ready to support secure payments through AI assistants such as ChatGPT, positioning itself as one of the first European payment providers compatible with OpenAI’s ACP.
The company said this capability will allow customers to accept AI-driven payments as soon as ACP becomes available in Europe.
According to the company, the breakthrough was driven by its product and engineering teams based in Lisbon, who successfully created an end-to-end purchase flow carried out entirely within a conversational AI environment.
This development is powered by Mollie’s compatibility with ACP’s Delegated Payment API, a core component enabling agentic commerce across digital channels. The firm said this marks a significant milestone in preparing its infrastructure for next-generation payment experiences.
Although OpenAI has not yet launched ACP in Europe, Mollie stated that its systems are already capable of supporting businesses the moment the protocol becomes live. The company emphasised that its focus is on providing a seamless and secure payment process without requiring merchants to understand the technical nuances of evolving agentic protocols.
Mollie director of data and AI Bernardo Caldas said, “This is another major step in our role as an AI commerce enabler for European businesses. Our customers shouldn’t need to be experts in competing protocols. Instead, we handle that for them. Our infrastructure is ready, which means our customers can focus on their business, knowing we’ll be prepared to help them sell through AI from day one.”
Looking ahead, Mollie said its vision is to simplify agentic commerce for European merchants by creating a unified path through multiple emerging protocols. The company is also collaborating with Google on the development of the Agent Payments Protocol and continues to work with ecommerce platform partners to ensure European businesses are ready to participate in the shift towards AI-driven commerce from day one.
