As we approach the holiday season, the strong need for food and assistance can be felt throughout our area. Fortunately, we live in a community that loves to break records when it comes to generosity. The KCRA/My 58 Turkey Drive collected more than 18,300 turkeys this year – and this Thursday we are expecting nearly 30,000 participants at Run to Feed the Hungry. Some of our largest donors at these change-making events are local businesses and our advertisers. They play a huge role in our ability to help the community as much as we can. So how can we show them how much we appreciate their generosity? Thanksgiving weekend always kicks off the holiday shopping season – so why not get your gifts from local businesses? When we strengthen our local businesses – they have the strength to keep investing in our community where it makes the biggest impact. Because who knows better what the community needs than the business owners who live here? Our business owners have a tremendous impact on our community; they employ your neighbors, strengthen our local economy, and help create an “if you build it, they will come” culture in our hometown. So, do your part and share more of your shopping budget with them this year. When we’re looking for things to be grateful for, we don’t need to look much further than this generous community. From all of us at KCRA/KQCA We hope you have a very Happy Thanksgiving. Ariel Roblin is the president and general manager of KCRA 3 and My58. See more of her editorials here.
